Just a normal family setting out on a crazy adventure… Ok.. Maybe we aren’t that normal…

Growing up, I loved interior design and planned that after graduating college I’d start a business finishing and remodeling basements. (In Utah, it is ridiculously common to buy a home with an unfinished basement. It is also ridiculously common for them to never be finished. )

After I graduated I actually went to work at a Logistic company and didn’t start a business because honestly there was so much involved with contracting licenses, and sub-contracting… I wasn’t interested in any of that and wasn’t capable of most of, or really any of the work. I have the vision to be able to see what a space can be layout wise, but the actual doing and building – Not my forte

Enter Mark…

He was in his last semester at college studying engineering. Hard work and home projects are his mo-jo! He had a roommate show him that if you really want to do something, you can. YouTube University, and Google University are great resources if you know how to use them and your common sense.

Mark and I were set up on a blind date and long story short we got married 9 months later. (Maybe some day I’ll share that long story on the blog…)

Mark and I got married in July 2012 and both wanted to start our family relatively quick.

It is now December of 2020 and baby number 5 is on the way. Come March, we will have 5 kids 7 and under. We didn’t anticipate, or even plan, having them all come that quickly but we are so grateful for our big family made of mostly little people!

Might not be a surprise with such a handful of kids, but we never started a basement remodeling business, even though we have remodeled a few basements. We have remodeled multiple homes of ours and have spent so many hours doing house projects it is just part of our lives together.

But, now we want to kick it up a notch! Haha… Cause life in 2020 wasn’t crazy enough.

We will be our own Owner-Builder contractor as we build our off-grid dream mansion…
