Hi all!  Yes, this is early this week 😦 . I am not at the land today which is sad but I did spend the whole day there yesterday. By the end of the day the excavator was running really rough and kept dying on me. Sounds like it just isn’t getting fuel so it might be an easy fix. The mechanic is coming Monday, so fingers crossed that goes well. Luckily I did get what I needed to get done yesterday.
I am prepping for the percolation test as previously stated. In weber county the process is after paying for a permit (of course.. you have to pay a permit fee for EVERYTHING) a county inspector will come out and look at a an exploration pit.  After evaluating the layers and soil they will tell you how deep to put the water test pit (which will be at the recommended depth for the leach field). Then you pay a certified person to make a hole in the ground and put water and a ruler in the hole and then take measurements every 15 mins. But the county ensured me there is more science to it which is why you have to pay a certified individual 🙂
So I got the exploration pit done. I dug a hole 18′ deep! I told the county guy and he seemed surprised.. I don’t think they normally go that deep, but he did tell me to go as deep as I could.
We want the leach field to be on the bottom of the ridge below the house, so I had to clear out a lot more trees down to the bottom of the ridge. SO PAINFULL. I hate clearing trees.  I did “successfully” transplant 4 trees (success rate of 4 for 5, was kind of tricky and destroyed the first big beautiful tree I tried to move.)  Only 2 were an easy quick transplant. The other 2 fell over when I tried to put them in their new hole. Standing those up was a terrible process by myself! Anyhow.. hopefully the trees make it!
From here out I need to move a lot of dirt down off the ridge. I think I have the road up the ridge passable for a car so that is exciting. After the land dries out some I will try to get the yukon up there! It was a wet sloppy mess yesterday.
Oh and there are wild turkeys ALL over the property.  I heard them doing their gobble gobble gobble all day 🙂
I’m off all next week and as long as the excavator is working I should be out there all week (otherwise I’ll waste my week of paternity leave!)  As of right now Friday Saturday weather for next week is looking good. If anyone is very confident in their trailer backing up skills help would probably come in handy.
