Hi All!

It has been two weeks so I wanted to do a quick update.  First and foremost, my excavator is still broken. Therefore, not a lot is happening at the land. But… I found the part I needed and bought it! Which is really awesome because it was hard to find… I would be a lot happier about it if it didn’t have a 6K price tag 😦 . But at least I have a path forward so that is comforting.

There have been a few good things happening on the paperwork side of the process.  This week I was able to secure a well permit from the county. I am now all set to drill a well. The well drilling company has a drill rig out in Huntsville but I am still about 4-6 weeks out. It would be really cool to have water on the property!  Also, I believe I talked about the subdivision process in a previous newsletter. I have to complete that before I can get a building permit. I am getting much closer.  The main part of that process is getting a plat map drawn to the county’s standards.  We submitted an initial plot and it came back with a TON of redlines. The survey company has fixed those issues and we have resubmitted it.  Fingers crossed it comes back approved or with only a couple more redlines.  If we go back and forth too many times my survey company might charge me more ( I had to pay $2500 for their services which was about $2500 cheaper than normal since the previous owner had already paid them to go out and survey the property).

So things are still happening… just not moving a lot of dirt 🙂

Oh! There was a wildfire that got started up by our land last night (the report said it was a target shooter that had a ricochet that started the fire). Luckily they went at it like crazy and got it put out the same night. A few houses got evacuated but our neighbor didn’t not get a forced evacuation. He was just encouraged to evacuate. So that was scary, but they got it put out fast and our land was spared. Phew!  We were actually camping Friday to Saturday, but left the land yesterday about 2 hours before the fire was started so we missed all of the excitement.  We did get texts from several people asking if our land was ok. We appreciate the outreach!  While camping this weekend, I tried to be useful by building a fort for the kids.. and we hiked up to the high side of our property to get a look at the view.  That much higher view is amazing!  We hope to build a deck up there accessible by zip lines someday. Would be a really neat place!  It was fun to see our building pad and driveway from up there.

Hopefully we can finish out the summer strong!
