Today is the big day! It finally happened. “Our Land” subdivision is finally complete and recorded. We now have a buildable lot! We have a little piece of paper the county gave me today is proof of that. Our parcel now has a new parcel number as part of being official!
In addition to having an official lot there are a few other things happening:
- Our Geotech report for our cottage came back…………………………………… and…………………………………………….. as far as I can tell……………………………… its……………………………………………………… good news! We can build the cottage where we want to. There is one “but”, however. In order to build over on that side of the property, we have to over excavate and add 3 feet and 5 feet of structural fill underneath the basement floors and the the footers, respectively. Which will add some cost… but all in all, I think that is doable and really not the end of the world (I was afraid it was going to require massive piers or some sort of hillside screws that have to be drilled in to the side of the hill). I attached the Geotech report for anyone that is having trouble sleeping at night. Just read over that and you’ll go right to sleep 🙂
- On the money pit side of things (referring to the excavator of course), I ordered a rebuilt hydraulic pump for it. We met the septic designer up at our land last night and I am going to try and get the leach field installed before the end of September. I am running out of time, but hopefully by next weekend (the 26th/27th) the excavator will be up and running. I have a good deal of dirt to move to make it all happen. I need to do some pre-excavation for the main house in order to lay out the leach field since that will be up by the main house in the back yard. Fingers crossed we can get that old hunk of metal up to snuff again!
- The well has had a temporary pump installed. We can almost pump our own water! The driller just needs to leave me a temporary electrical box so that I can hook it up to my generator.
- And then there is the shed. I was out back-packing with the Youth last week out on an awesome trail in the wind rivers Wyoming mountain range. I got home Friday and after a short night in my bed, I woke Andrew up at 5:30a.m. Saturday morning and we ran out to the land and didn’t leave till it got dark! Andrew was a trooper and was a good little gopher for me 🙂 .. I did have a bit of a challenge trying to get the other “ladder” up on the roof for the other eave by myself. Luckily with a ratchet strap I was able to hold it in place and get it installed. It was a bit of a song and a dance while standing on one foot with my tongue sticking out kind of a deal while sweating in the blistering heat 🙂 Either way, I got the roof OSB all installed, and the windows and door and a majority of the siding done. I am hoping to get the shingles on and the roof water tight this weekend so it will be ready for some solar panels!

After not sleeping all week while backpacking (very little at least), and a solid 16 hour day working on the shed, I got a little tuckered out. Karianne was kind enough to capture the moment after church when I hit my wall and couldn’t keep going. 🙂

Until next time!
Mark
