Hi all! Quick update this week and mostly a photo dump.
We did get really lucky this week. Johnathan, my youngest brother came down from Boise to help! And just his luck.. it was time to put on the roof (tar paper and shingles).
After work on Friday, we tried to race up to the land to beat a big forecasted storm. Which was kind of important since we needed to make the shed waterproof. On the way up we did pick up the rails for the solar panels and that slowed us down. We mostly made it in time, but we were dealing with some precipitation Friday night. John and I tried to get the tar paper up quickly and we mostly made it. But as you may notice in we decided to go barefoot since it was a bit slippery.

That seemed to help a little but it was still a tad precarious. The rain did stop and we were able to get the side flashing and all the tar paper up Friday night which was a good thing cause it rained A LOT Friday night with lots of thunder and lightning for a good couple hours through the night. I did not get much sleep! But I was happy knowing the water wasn’t filling up my shed. I was also able to cut up the roof joists on the high side and put on my rim board just before dark. I had to lean over the top of the roof to make all of the cuts (not fun) since it was a little too high for my ladder.
And then Saturday. John and I had the pleasure of putting on the shingles. Funny story, if you look at pic 5, (sorry – bit of an awkward angle). Turns out I spent most of the day in that position and ended up with a decent sunburn on my lower back!

It felt like forever but after a couple breaks we were able to get the shingles all on and now the shed is “dried in”. I am very happy about that!

John got a little tuckered out from all the work, I think you’d have to be to fall asleep where he did!!

In the end fighting the rain a little was a huge blessing. There was one time the sun came through for a solid 30 minutes and John and I ROASTED up on that roof. I was very grateful to have cloud cover most of the day.
And the best part about the weekend….. was the glorious mud! Mud everywhere. And cleaning up the kids was lots of fun 🙂

Next week I hope to get all the solar rails mounted and maybe even a panel or two on the roof. The excavator may get fixed at the end of this week or early next, and after that, I’ll need to shift gears and get some excavation done for the septic system.
Big thanks to Johnathan for his timely help! Not sure my back would have been able to handle the whole job by myself.
Until next time!
Mark
