I haven’t had a ton of time out at the land lately, but I did get out there on Tuesday this last week for our gravel delivery for the septic leach field. And we had quite a bit of gravel delivered!

Before getting the gravel delivered we had to have our trenches inspected by the county. My depth and spacing between the two trenches passed, but my overall length failed. Apparently my septic plan called for 160′ of trench and both my designer and I have had 150′ in our heads the whole time.  So I had to run out there Saturday after a young men overnighter and extend my trenches another 10′.  Luckily it didn’t require a reinspection. Instead, I have installed observation tubes at the ends of both of my trenches for water monitoring.  The county will simply measure between the pipes to make sure the trenches are long enough. I double checked the distances myself and it looks like I’m good.

Then the rock came!  I had 8 truck loads of rock dropped off. That was roughly 144 tons of gravel.  The gravel itself is about half the cost and the other half is the delivery fee. All in all it came out to about $5k.  As far as getting the gravel where it needed to go .. my process worked well enough. It definitely took all day though. I had them dump it off the end of the hill above the trenches. This is at the front end of my long 100′ trench. Then using the excavator I worked the gravel all the way down the 100′ trench, then transferred it over to the 60′ trench and then refilled the main one. Super exciting stuff. I’d keep explaining but you all would probably fall asleep.  🙂   I was able to fill the trenches up with 6′ of gravel leaving 1′ left to run the distribution pipes.

First LoadVery Exciting

Getting The Rock Into Position

Hopefully I can get all the materials I need this week to run the distribution pipes this next weekend and get ready for the next inspection.  After they inspect the distribution pipes I should be able to cover up the trenches… hopefully before snow fall!  Hands down the best part about this week.. when I left the land.. the excavator was still running! 🙂

I don’t know if I have mentioned it before.. but this time of year is by far my favorite time to be up at the land. Its not too hot and the colors are SO amazing. Pictures don’t do it justice but maybe you can get an idea of how beautiful it is up there this time of year.

Until next time!
