Utah weather ceases to amaze me! For those not local to Utah in the space of 48 hours we went from a high of 75 degrees to a high of 39 (in Huntsville) with snow flurries! Up to this point, October has been perfect warm sunny weather which has been great for my project. However, we desperately need moisture out in the west so I am mostly grateful for the precipitation :).
Karianne was off at a quilt retreat this weekend, so my step mom and very recently retired dad came out to Utah to help with the kiddos. And what a blessing that was. As the weather was about to turn I also found myself mildly under the weather. I tried to put on a good game face (with the help of some IBuprofen) and went up to the land on Friday with my Dad. It was the last perfect day of weather. And we were able to knock out the distribution pipe installation! But it was pretty miserable work. The pipes had to be super level and in order to do that it required manipulating that 1.5″ gravel by hand. And that gavel does not move by hand! Shovels, rakes, hands, feet, etc. it just doesn’t move very well. The excavator makes it look so easy.. but by hand .. not so much. It took us about 5 hours to knock it out but we got it done. I never could have gotten it done without my dad!

Next up, I need to get an inspection done on the distribution pipes. Once that passes I’ll need to hook up a distribution box and bury it all with gavel. Then I’ll throw a special fabric over it and cover it back up with dirt and then the leach field will be done!

In addition to the distribution pipe installation we packed up the trailer and brought it home to get it winterized. Somewhat of a bitter sweet moment to pull my home away from home back home
. Our friends Taber and Rebecca and their kids also stopped by to see all the progress and to give a couple of their kids rides in the excavator :).

Just real quick since he came up this week, I wanted to give a quick shout out to my dad and congratulate him on his retirement and the end of his very successful career! This weekend I was reminded of what a hard worker he is as he worked circles around me even though he’s what I affectionately call an old man
. He taught me to work hard and blessed/cursed me with his inability to sit still and not get things done. Growing up in his household, we never went without as he has always been a very good provider and a very loving father. I am grateful for his example and all that he has taught me. I am excited for him and the next season of his life. I only hope it is filled with less physically demanding work than what I put him up to this weekend (well… maybe after the cottage is done ๐ ) Congrats dad, I love you!
